How to change favicon for Magento 2


Favicon is a small icon that browsers display on tab, address bar, or some bookmarks bar of the browsers. Favicon is a great tool for increasing brand awareness. Magento has an integrated function for changing website’s favicon in Magento backend and today we will learn how to change Favicon in Magento 2 backend or coding.

Step 1: Preparation

Magento 2 supports ICO, PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG, APNG, SVG image extensions as Favicon, if your file format doesn’t match this, use tool to convert it to mentioned file extensions. This is Favicon file I’m using for Magentoexplorer

Step 2: Changing Favicon in Magento 2

Changing Favicon via backend (recommended)

Log in to your Magento 2 backend, navigate to Store > Setting > Configuration > HTML Head

Next choose the Favicon file you prepared and upload

Finally save changes.

Changing Favicon in theme file (not recommended)

You can also manually change Favicon of your Magento 2 store by upload and replace favicon.ico file located in

Step 3: Clear cache

The new favicon might not be displayed properly due to cached data. Go to System > Cache Management > Select Cache type that has Invalidated status > Flush Magento Cacheflush-cache-magento-2

Now refresh your store and see the new favicon.
