How to enable Backorder in Magento 1.9


By definition, back orders or the orders placed by the customers for products or services that cannot be fulfilled currently due to a lack of supply availability.

The back orders show the high demand for the items. However, by default, Magento does not allow back orders of the products. This may affect the sales of the stores and the availability of pre-selling the products. Even the products are currently out-of -stock, you can still configure to show them on the page.

This tutorial will show you a further step of processing back orders in Magento store.

Step 1. login to the backend of your Magento store.

Step 2. From the Admin dashboard, navigate to System > Configuration.


Step 3. From the left-side panel, select Catalog > Inventory and explore the Product Stock Options section:

  • In the Backorders section, from the drop-down menu, select Allow QTY Below 0 and Notify Customer.
  • Click Save Config to finish.

Now you will be able to see backorder button on product page when your products are out of stock
